Imagine a system that helps new drivers gradually gain experience on the road, building confidence and skills before hitting the highway. That's the idea behind a Graduated Driver's Licence (GDL)!
Who Benefits from GDL?
While not currently offered in the UK, GDL programs are used in many countries to help new drivers, especially teenagers, ease into driving.
How Does GDL Work?
Here's a simplified breakdown (specifics may vary):
Learner Stage: This is where you practice with a qualified instructor, mastering the basics.
Intermediate Stage: You earn a restricted licence with limitations like nighttime curfews or passenger restrictions. This allows you to gain experience in lower-risk situations.
Full Licence: After meeting requirements and demonstrating safe driving habits, you graduate to a full licence with fewer or no restrictions.
GDL isn't available in the UK yet, but it's a great concept for new drivers!
